Mirroring Places: art, ecology and the commons

Til Vægs

With increasing marginalization, urban gentrification and global environmental extraction, the urgency to find common ground beyond capitalist structures is more urgent than ever. In the conference Mirroring Places: art, ecology and the commons we will explore and interweave commoning practices in art, activism and urban ecology with a site-responsive conference at Til Vægs in the common housing area in Lundtoftegade, Copenhagen. The gathering will unfold through panels, practices and performative tools, shared between collaborators and audiences.

What are the narratives and perspectives revolving around urban development considering the intersecting ecological, social and urban crises? How can communities organise to take action that enable resistance and permeability in front of styrong gentrifying forces? How can land and memory play a part in the development of such movements? How can artistic gestures propose reflections and directions in such contexts?

At the gathering we will discuss art, ecology and commoning as three related approaches to take action against the overwhelming urban powers at play in gentrification, ecological extraction, stigmatization and racialisation today.
